In mezzo alla quantità di recensioni dell’iPad uscite in questi giorni, ce n’è una che merita di essere letta, ed è quella di Rolling Stone, che lo ha testato come eventuale sostituto dell’iPod, valutandone le prestazioni per la musica. Le parole conclusive mi sembrano tra le più equilibrate lette in questi giorni:

The iPad just launched two days ago. Like the iPhone at launch, it needs some time to grow into its own, but you can see the big, responsive touchscreen’s potential, particularly with virtual-instrument/music-making apps, and we expect much of the innovation to come out of this space. Imagine Yamaha’s Tenori-on transported to the iPad screen, for example. We’re thinking entirely new instrument on this thing.

So, is the iPad better than the iPod or iPhone? In some ways, yes, but it’s no replacement. If you have the money, the iPad is a fun upscale toy and conversation starter. That said, its full potential won’t be realized for a year or two, at least. For now, it’s not an essential buy by any means, but keep watching this space, because there’s definitely a tablet in your future.

Per il resto, c’è chi lo ama o lo odia, solitamente senza riserve. E il motivo sta nella bellissima metafora usata da Cory Doctorow di Boing Boing: le viti e la colla. Ovvero oggetti e tecnologie aperte, smontabili e manipolabili e rimontabili (fatti appunto con le viti) versus oggetti “chiusi” (sigillati con la colla), come sono quelli della Apple. Doctorow usa questa metafora per spiegare perché non comprerà l’iPad: a chi interessa, consiglio questa riflessione di ManteBlog.

In attesa di vedere cosa riserva la presentazione del nuovo firmware iPhone, prevista per questa sera: sarà pieno di colla anche questo, come al solito. Ma non c’è dubbio che anche questa volta ci sarà un sacco di gente pronta a farsi appiccicare le mani…
